SuperRugby Finale....

Last weekend Tim and I ventured out, via train, to Lower Hutt. One of Tim's lab buddies, Phil, lives there with his family and he invited us out for dinner and to take in the final game of the Investec SuperRugby season. We arrived and were immediately treated like royalty as we sat down to a completely homemade spread of Chinese food. Although Phil's family has lived in New Zealand for several generations now they were originally from South China. Let's just say that the cooking skills have not diminished over time. :) Rice with tender mixed vegetables, fish, chicken and pork prepared in a variety of ways along with the best spring rolls I've ever eaten. Amazing. I even had seconds. It was that good. :) Thoroughly stuffed we waddled into the living room and settled in for the game. The final was a match up between a NZ team, the Chiefs, and the Sharks from South Africa. While the Chiefs aren't our favorite NZ team we cheered them on hoping for a NZ victory!! In the end the Chiefs made easy work of the Sharks and we won by a large margin. And although I couldn't even think about eating anything else after dinner we noticed a delightful aroma emanating from the kitchen towards the end of the game. Soon after Phil's mom served up homemade chocolate cake (to die for) and ice cream. So delicious! Happy to be stuffed with wonderful dessert we switched over and watched the Olympics until well past midnight. With the hour becoming increasingly late we sheepishly looked over at Phil and before we could ask he offered to drive us home (the trains do not run after midnight). All in all a wonderful evening, great food and delightful company!
