In Cambridge we packed our bags, checked out of our accommodation and after Tim's session ended set off for London! We spent a little over an hour traversing the English countryside that was dotted with farms, crops growing in pretty straight lines and hillsides covered with livestock. The train was surprisingly
windy but we weren't complaining as the day was quite warm. Before we knew it we had arrived in London at the King's Cross Train Station.
We had purposefully booked a hotel just around the corner so we were checked in within a half an hour. After Cambridge and our two twin beds this new hotel with a full size seemed luxurious. :)
Then we were off to explore! We bought an Oyster card for me as Tim had already had one from his trip last year. In Wellington we have Snapper cards for the bus but London has Oyster for buses and 'the tube' or Underground.
I've read about the tube but didn't
really know what to expect. But there wasn't much time for thought as first thing we were tagging on to ride a few stops. When we came out of the tube station and popped up to street level Tim said, "What do we have here?". I looked up and saw none other than Big Ben! This photo is terrible but the memory is attached to it. :)
After I spent some time gaping we walked, amongst throngs of people, alongside the Thames to take in the London Eye and sit down to a cool beer (Timmy) and cider (me). :) Later on we tubed back to base and collapsed into bed completely exhausted from the conference, traveling and walking.
